How we Manage COVID-19

It is everyone’s responsibility to safeguard each other from the potential spread of COVID-19. Our team and patients are of special concern. In order to do our part, New Concept Sleep will continue to see patients in our office but on a limited basis. All appointments that can be conducted via telemedicine or telephone communication will be accomplished by those virtual technologies. For those in-office patient encounters, we will practice Universal Precautions to protect both our patients and our New Concept Team.
1. Managing Patients Appointments
  • Obstructive Sleep Apnea affects approximately 70 million adults in the United States alone and can overload an already depressed respiratory system. Therefore, we believe it is important to continue to see patients for in-office encounters as needed to initiate treatment or to receive their custom medical devices. We will also elect to see any patients experiencing any sort of discomfort that prevents them from using their medical devices.

  • FREE Consultations will be performed via phone, web or telemedicine technologies in order to assess need and risk prior to initiation of treatment

  • We are delaying all annual appointments and other non-essential appointments.

2. New Concept Sleep Infection Control Guidelines

Infection control guidelines for most medical offices are based on the “universal precaution” approach wherein we treat each patient with the assumption that they are an active risk. This protocol involves good hygiene practices, personal protective equipment, sterilization of all instruments, and the sanitation of all surfaces the patient has contact. These protocols have been in place since the inception of New Concept Sleep and will continue to be regardless of any outbreaks. The most recent data suggest we should implement additional barriers to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The additional precautions we are taking are outlined below and are adapted from CDC guidelines.

  • Patients who will be seen in person will be required to answer a COVID-19 risk questionnaire.

  • We are limiting our patient interactions to only those that require the physical presence of the patient.

  • To comply with social distancing requests we are limiting only 1 (one) patient interaction in the office at a time and will allow for 10 minutes of disinfection of clinical and reception areas between patient encounters.

  • We will require patients to wear gloves if they are required to touch their face or handle their medical devices.

  • Maintain regular housekeeping practices, including routine cleaning and disinfecting of surfaces, equipment, and other elements of the work environment. When choosing cleaning chemicals, employers should consult information on the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)-approved disinfectant labels with claims against emerging viral pathogens.

  • Encourage respiratory etiquette, including covering coughs and sneezes. Provide patients with tissues and trash receptacles.

  • Promote frequent and thorough hand washing.

  • Mandating employees that are sick to stay home
